A Woman’s Advantage
Society may traditionally expect men to make the first move, but this fascinating study has revealed a big difference in how men and women use dating apps. But on an app, everything was supposed to be simple. You swipe, they swipe, a conversation starts, and romance blossoms. Except, of course, it rarely happens like that.

Throughout Western history, tradition has dictated that the man be the one who initiates the romance. From rom-coms where women sit around waiting for the man to call, to school dances, where the guy has to ask the girl to be his date. How should they do it? Just be clear as you think you can be, and take into account that some form of flirting and seduction should be involved. Men and women are equal, and we should get rid of stereotypes.
It would be great if more women initiated dates. Women should ask men for dates, because that is what equality stands for — breaking conservative traditions. Although, nowadays offline dating invitations are pretty much gone. A lot of men prefer women to initiate dates because, rightly or wrongly, a lot of us like to convince ourselves that the fact these women are forward in their approach, means they might well be more game.
It would certainly be against the norm and generally a pleasant thing to hear. A lot of people are nervous about dating. And loads of them have social anxiety — all the kids are buried in their phones and game consoles, and no one has a lot of real social interaction anymore.

Despite the success of dating apps such as Bumble – on which women are required to initiate conversation – traditional gender roles still dominate the world of online dating, according to new research. A major new study carried out by the Oxford Internet Institute OII and eHarmony found that men are 30 per cent more likely than women to initiate conversation, and when a woman does send the first message, the response rate drops by 15 per cent.
The researchers, from Oxford University, analysed , profiles and over 10 years of eHarmony data, tracking changing preferences and communication patterns among single Brits. The past decade has seen the rise of dating apps and the breakdown of any stigma surrounding looking for love online. But despite this – and progress being made towards gender equality – the researchers found that the number of men initiating conversations online has actually increased, from six per cent in to 30 per cent in The researchers also looked into what would make someone more likely to receive a message.
They found men were more successful when they had more photos on their profiles, as well as if they were perceived to be athletic, agreeable and altruistic. Similarly, women who appear athletic, romantic and altruistic are more likely to be messaged on dating apps. Designed to make women feel more secure when using dating apps, it also essentially gives females the option of using Tinder like Bumble.

Online Dating: Should A Woman Make The First Move?
She is a little coy, anxious and definitely interested but hesitant to cross the gender boundary imposed by generations of convention to approach him. The first move advantage, after all, lies with the male of the species. But things are changing, even if in slow, incremental steps, with many women looking to break free of the stereotype.
According to a recent study by matchmaking website Shaadi. One driver of this in the urban space is technology and one reflection of this is the online dating scene, which is becoming women driven, one app at a time.
Bumble, despite being relatively new to the online dating market, is a favorite among many Pakistani feminists, as women initiate the first.
And to those people, I argue back that Bumble is a dating app that is good in theory but the execution of the woman initiating the conversation online is terrible. Dating is a cat-mouse game always revolving around the chase. Dating gender norms are the rules that we play by and these rules are based upon human nature. When these rules are changed, how do you sustain the chase? From the beginning of this relationship, the dating norms are already out of place – and the early relationship days are when relationship precedents are set.
